New mothers are steadily older in Norway

The average age for a woman giving birth in Norway for the first time has passed 30. In Oslo, 3.3 percent of women becoming mothers were older than 40.

Numbers released last fall by the state’s medical birth records for 2014 shows that the average age of first-time mothers was 30.1 years, compared to 29.3 in 2013.

The numbers of women giving birth after age 40 was 3.7 percent on a national basis. Mothers in Oslo tend to be the oldest in the country, with the average of first-time mothers put at 31.6 years.
