Norwegian officials are imposing new health requirements on those applying for or needing to renew drivers’ licenses. “There will be less room for arbitrary decisions and therefore more equal treatment,” Svein Lie, a divisional director at the state health department, told news bureau NTB.
Drivers with diabetes will face stricter rules, along with those suffering from respiratory ailments, narkolepsi or other sleeping ailments and dementia. The goal is to reduce the risk of drivers falling asleep, suffering vision problems or otherwise becoming a hazard on the road.
The new rules take effect October 1.
