Even though Norwegian ski queen Marit Bjørgen dropped the weekend’s World Cup action in Davos because of a cold, and the country’s crown princess Theres Johaug is suspended on highly controversial doping charges, two other Norwegian women still managed to dominate the event’s 15-kilometer race.
Ingvild Flugstad Østberg was the fastest of all the racers, skiing the 15 kilometers (nine miles) in just 37 minutes and 44.4 seconds. Heidi Weng was close behind, finishing just 7.9 seconds behind Østberg. Krista Pärmäkoski of Finland was third, 8.8 seconds behind Weng.
The victory was Østberg’s first in this year’s World Cup season, that just recently got underway. The skier from Gjøvik in Oppland County now ranks second in the overall World Cup standings.
