Trouble plagues DNB’s mobile payment system

DNB’s much-vaunted “Vipps” system, which allows users to pay for goods and services via their mobile phones, was out of service on Friday and bank officials couldn’t say when it would be up and running again.

“Some of our customers experienced earlier today that transactions were being doubled,” the bank reported on its Facebook page. That means customers were being charged twice for their purchases.  The bank promised refunds for all such technical errors.

State broadcaster NRK also reported trouble on Wednesday for the Vipps system that’s now used by as many as 1.9 million bank customers in Norway. “The system has temporarily been taken down while we work on solving the problems,” the bank reported Friday morning. It’s the latest in a long string of problems around DNB’s online banking services.
