Norway’s biggest newspaper, and a relatively conservative one at that, editorialized over the weekend that US President Donald Trump is “morally bankrupt.” Aftenposten wrote that “hardly a day goes by without Trump being caught in a lie, launching childish attacks on an institution, group or political opponents, or spoiling an important meeting.”
Aftenposten summed up the previous week’s developments in which Trump’s former campaign manager was convicted of various crimes while his long-time lawyer has admitted to others. The crimes are tied to the hush money paid to two women, one a porn star, just before the election in 2016.
“The man who claimed he would ‘drain the swamp’ in Washington DC is at the center of a worse swamp than the US capital has ever seen before,” Aftenposten wrote. The paper added that all the scandals around Trump raise prospects that he should not be able to sit out his term in office.
