Visits restricted at hospitals, nursing homes

Only family of elderly patients who are dying are allowed visits, after nursing homes and many hospitals imposed new restrictions during the weekend. Not even the wife of one man was allowed into his care facility, for fear of the Corona virus spreading.

Elderly patients and those with chronic health problems are the most vulnerable to the virus, according to Norway’s public health institute. It’s advising full isolation for hospitalized patients suffering from heart problems, diabetes or lung diseases.

The Bråset care center in Asker, west of Oslo, one of Norway’s largest with 200 patients, declared itself closed to all visitors. It also closed its foot clinic and hair salon, in line with other such closures all over the country.

Norway remains in its first week of near shutdown, after schools, restaurants, public institutions, cultural and sporting events and many workplaces closed from Friday. The shutdown is initially meant to last 14 days, with Norwegians urged to simply stay home, but may be extended if deemed necessary.
