Norway’s women’s national football team managed to do what the men’s team did not: qualify to play in the European Championships in 2022. Their 1-0 victory over Wales this week secured them the spot.
It’s not the first time Norway’s women have performed far better than the country’s men in football. The Norwegian women’s football team has played in every European Championship and World Championship that’s been arranged.
The next European Championship was supposed to play out in England next summer. It was postponed when the men’s Euro 2020 was moved from this year to next because of the Corona crisis.
Norway won the European Championship in both 1987 and 1993. Women’s football has since become much more popular, and the next round is expected to set a new standard in both the level of playing and international attention.
