New Norwegian football star is born

Local media are raving about the talents of another young Norwegian football player. He helped make sure established Norwegian stars Erling Braut Haaland and Martin Ødegaard scored in Tuesday night’s latest qualifier for the European Championships.

Antonio Nusa is only 18 years old but he already plays for Belgian Club Brugge after launching his pro career at Stabæk. On Tuesday he helped Norway beat Georgia before nearly 24,000 fans at Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo, and won a standing ovation.

“We have world stars in Erling Braut Haaland (and Ødegaard), but wow, we have a new world star on the way,” crowed state broadcaster NRK’s commentator Carl-Erik Torp after Nusa got much of the credit for the winning score of 2-1. “I’m willing to use such big words.”

Nusa, who’s from Langhus, assisted Haaland first, then Ødegaard, and later told NRK himself that “it was great, it was fun, those are guys you look up to. It was really fun that I could assist both.” Haaland himself, meanwhile, ignored the media and didn’t answer a single question during his time in Oslo that began with an exhibition match late last week against Jordan that Norway won 6-0.
