Two killed in ultralight plane crash

Two men out flying in an ultralight plane crashed into an old wooden barn located on the busy E6 highway in Oppdal on Monday. One of them was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to hospital, but died on the way, and then police confirmed a second man had died at the scene.

The aircraft burst into flames shortly after the crash, which occurred around 11am not far from the local airfield in the mountainous town of Oppdal. Police had initially reported only one person on board, but three hours later they confirmed that two men were involved in the fatal crash.

State broadcaster NRK reported that officials from Norway’s accident investigation board were on their way to Oppdal, best known as a popular skiing destination in the winter and full of holiday homes also used in the summer. Police also reported that criminal technicians were called in to probe through the wreckage.

The E6 highway, which runs the entire length of Norway, was closed right after the accident but reopened after the fire was extinguished and the area deemed safe around 12:30pm. staff
