Another case of suspected cable-slicing has hit Norway, this time at Andøya in Nordland County. It’s at least the second time cables have been cut on or near the strategically important island in Northern Norway that’s home to several military operations.
The national defense magazine Forsvarets Forum reports that police have launched an investigation into possible sabotage. It comes after the defense research institute Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt (FFI) discovered that a cable to a jammer being used in an international security test had been cut.
Several companies and organizations were set to test how their own systems would react to signal jamming, which disturbs radio- and satellite systems. A researcher for FFI discovered, however, that the cable to the jammer being used had been sliced. Police are now studying the sliced cable to determine what caused the damage.
It’s the latest in a string of cable-cutting, also off Vesterålen and Svalbard.
