Norway’s public health institute FHI has been bracing for a new wave of the Corona virus in the coming weeks. It warns that more Norwegians may be infected, but fewer will fall ill because of high levels of immunity.
“We expect a new wave of Covid-19 in the late winter,” Dr Preben Aavitsland of FHI (Folkehelseinstitutt) told news bureau NTB. Norway has earlier experienced outbreaks of the virus when the weather first turns cold, but not so far this winter. The annual wave has held off, but a new one is expected.
“Waves of Covid-19 will continue,” Aavitsland said, “but they’ll be less noticeable because the population’s immunity makes infection milder. That means far fewer will become seriously ill, while others will be infected without symptoms.”
