Norway won its third match in a row at the European Championships in Switzerland on Thursday. A new star was also born, and some commentators think she should even replace Norwegian football star Ada Hegerberg in early quarter-final action.
Young Signe Gaupset plays the same position as Hegerberg, and was among many called in as replacements in Friday night’s match against Iceland. Gaupset, who’s only 20 and plays professionally for Brann in Bergen, scored twice, as did 25-year-old Frida Maanum, who plays for Arsenal.
That resulted in Norway beating Iceland 4-3 and Norwegian football experts like Kristoffer Løkberg and Vilde Millestad Rislaa think they should start when the quarter-finals get underway next week. Gaupset, meanwhile, was getting lots of attention and praise after the match, when she became the youngest female player to score two goals in a European Championships.
