A general cargo vessel sailing in the fleet of Oslo-based Bulkship Management AS got caught up in the drone drama at Copenhagen’s main airport last week. It sailed past the airport at Kastrup (CPH) just as drones flying over the airport forced its shutdown.
That made Bulk Management’s Oslo Carrier 3 a possible suspect as a launch pad for the drones, reports Danwatch in Denmark, and the company has confirmed its presence off Kastrup when the drones were flying. Bulkship Management also has a representative office in Kaliningrad, where Russian crew members are recruited to work on board.
Company officials stated that its vessel was sailing from Nordenhamn, Germany to Klaipeda, Lithuania to discarge steel pipes and sails regularly between the Baltic and Mediterranean. It also confirmed the Oslo Carrier 3 has “mixed nationality crew including Russians” on board, but went through inspections in both Germany and Lithuania “without any comments.”
A company spokesperson told newspaper Dagens Næringsliv (DN) that “the ship confirms it did not have any drones on board. We have not been contacted by any authorities.” The vessel, which sails under the flag of Portugal (Madeira), was reported by the ship tracking servie VesselFinder to be back sailing in the Baltic on Tuesday after calling at the port of Hamina in Finland on Monday.
Danish police have reported that they are investigating vessels that were in the area when drones flew over CPH. They include a Russian cargo ship, the Astrol 1, and a tanker, Pushpa, sailing under the flag of Benin but under sanctions for sailing with Russian oil.
