Only one film won more Golden Globe nominations this week than the popular and critically acclaimed Norwegian film Sentimental Value. Its eight nominations set a record in Norway, and the film’s Norwegian star was thrilled.
“I’m very moved right now,” Renate Reinsve told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) after the news broke on Monday. She’s among those nominated for best actress for her leading role in the film, which takes place in Oslo and is called Affeksjonsverdi in Norwegian.
“I’m proud to be part of this film and that we’ve been nominated in so many categories,” Reinsve added. The others include best drama film, best non-English-language film, best male supporting actor (Stellan Skarsgård), best script (written by Norwegians Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier), best female supporting actresses Inga Ibsdotter and Elle Fanning, and best director (Trier).
That qualified as “historic,” according to the film’s producer Maria Ekerhovd, after only one other film (One battle after another) won more nominations. “Everyone is super-happy and overwhelmed,” she told NRK. The winners will be announced in Los Angeles on January 11.
