Prices keep rising

Norway’s consumer price index rose by 2.7 percent last month compared to February of last year. That’s less than the rate of price growth in January but higher than the Norwegian central bank’s target inflation rate of just 2 pecent.

Prices in January were up by 3.6 percent, raising fears that interest rates may rise instead of fall this year. Now there’s been another price hike, not as robust, but not good for those hoping for lower mortgage rates.

State statistics bureau SSB (Statistics Norway) reported on Tuesday that a rise in electricity rates contributed to the overall price rise in February. Now many worry that the US’ and Israel’s war on Iran will send energy rates soaring, especially for fuel. Some filling stations in Norway raised the price of diesel by NOK 5 per liter in the course of one day this week, and airlines were warning of higher ticket prices too.
