Norway’s national football team lost its third Nations League match in a row Sunday night, in competition that can determine seeding in the next European Championships. Head coach Ståle Solbakken remains optimistic, suggesting the other teams are playing extra hard against the Norwegians just because they’re so good.
Solbakken claimed he was “very satisfied” with Norway’s three points after four matches in the league so far. That compares to Portugal’s 12 points and Denmark’s six in the top Group A, while the fourth team from Wales also has three points.
Norway lost to Portugal in Oslo, to Wales in Cardiff and then again to Portugal in Porto Sunday night by a score of 2-1. The Norwegians beat Denmark on home turf, however, and will face them again in Copenhagen. “I’m very satisfied with how this has played out, even though I’m completely aware that it’s the results that count,” Solbakken said at a press conference after the match.
He added that losing three matches in a row “is of course not good enough,” and it sent both of the team’s superstars Martin Ødegaard and Erling Braut Haaland either home or off on a needed holiday in private jets. All need some rest and rehabilitation before Nations League action resumes in November.
