A film based on Norwegian author Per Petterson’s best-seller Out Stealing Horses was the big winner at this year’s Amanda Awards, which celebrated its 35th year of promoting the quality of, and interest in, Norwegian films over the weekend. The winning film had also claimed the largest number of nominations.
Out Stealing Horses won the awards for best Norwegian cinema film, best director, best male supporting actor, best photography and best original music. The film had been nominated in 10 categories.
The best-director award went to Hans Petter Moland for Out Stealing Horses, while the best actress award went to Pia Tjelta for her performance in Blind Zone. The award for best actor went to Tobias Santelmann for his role in The Congo Murders.
Norwegian film director and producer Petter Vennerød won the Amanda award committee’s annual ærespris (special prize for his contributions to Norwegian film over the years. The Amanda Awards is held in conjunction with the Norwegian Film Festival in the west coast city of Haugesund.
