More storms hammer Western Norway

Roads were closed and communities isolated in Western Norway on Monday, after snow followed by heavy rainstorms raised the threat of landslides. Stormy weather was once again spoiling the holidays between Christmas and the New Year.

Authorities raised the warning levels for avalanches, mud- and rock slides late Sunday in the counties of Møre og Romsdal, Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane. The area around Jølster was especially hard-hit, not long after earlier landslides proved fatal there. Several roads and bridges were closed because of raging rivers and threat of flooding.

Mountain passes were also in danger of being closed or subject to convoy driving. The small community of Fresvik was isolated Monday morning and Hordaland was reporting lots of flooding. Half of RV 13 was closed just before the Bu Tunnel by a rockslide.

No injuries were reported as of midday.
