Wounded Palestinian children land in Norway

They may seem like just a drop in the ocean of human suffering in Gaza, but at least six sick and wounded Palestinian children were flown to Norway via Egypt this week on a specially equipped SAS jet used for medical evacuations. An ailing King Harald and wounded Ukrainian soldiers have also been flown to Norway on the same aircraft.

The six children aged one to 16, accompanied by family members, will now get the medical help they need and eventually be settled in Norwegian communities around the country. “We would have gladly gotten more of the badly injured children and adults out of Gaza, but it’s been difficult,” said Anne Beathe Tvinnereim, the government minister in charge of foreign aid and development.

Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said the medical evacuation of up to 20 people “is an important signal to Gaza that there are people thinking about them and wanting to help them.” The children had been at a hospital in Egypt that has taken in many patients from Gaza. All have serious diagnoses and need special health services at a time when most hospitals in Gaza have been destroyed by Israeli attacks. Their arrival came during a visit by the Egyptian president to Norway earlier this week.
