Norwegians and tourists in Norway were suffering through more train trouble this weekend, after locomotive engineers for train company Vy went on strike. Nearly 400 train departures have been cancelled over the next three days.
Worst hit are the lines running from Drammen through Oslo and on to Hamar and Lillehammer. A total of 30 departures on that key route were cancelled on Sunday alone, as were train lines elsewhere in the Oslo area, for example from Oslo to Mysen, Halden and on to Gothenburg in Sweden.
Train service from Bergen to Arna was also disrupted, with 18 departures cancelled. Train operator Vy can’t offer bus service under terms of a strike, nor can passengers expect compensation for alternative service via taxi or airline service.
At issue are demands from Vy’s locomotive engineers for the same pay as that offered to those working for the high-speed Airport Express Train (Flytoget), which Vy recently took over.
