Norway’s central bank kept its key policy rate at 4.5 percent on Thursday, but warned that it will either remain at that relatively high level or even rise. That’s because the bank’s committee on monetary policy thinks inflation is still too high.
“It will likely be necessary to keep the policy rate elevated” for a while longer, said Ida Wolden Bache, governor of Norges Bank. She added that prices are still rising “and we are prepared to raise rhe policy rate if needed to bring inflation down to target” within a “reasonable” time frame.
The inflation target is just 2 percent. The next interest rate announcement will be made on December 17.
