Serbia’s president visits Oslo

Serbian President Boris Tadic was starting a two-day visit to Oslo on Monday, with Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg as his host. Norway and Serbia have long had “a close relationship,” according to state officials.

Tadic was invited for lunch with King Harald at the Royal Palace on Monday, and to meetings with Stoltenberg and Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Tadic was also scheduled to meet  several Norwegian business leaders including the chief executive of telecoms firm Telenor, Jon Fredrik Baksaas, at Telenor’s headquarters at Fornebu, just west of Oslo. Telenor has become the second largest mobile phone operator in Serbia with nearly 3 million subscribers, reports news bureau NTB.

A meeting with the president of Norway’s Parliament, Dag Terje Andersen, was also on the agenda, as was a session with members of the parliament’s foreign relations and defense committees.
