Princess Ragnhild’s funeral to be held next week

The funeral of King Harald’s oldest sister, Princess Ragnhild fru Lorentzen, was set for noon on Friday September 28 at the chapel inside the Royal Palace in Oslo. Around 120 guests are expected, including King Harald, his other sister Princess Astrid, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Martha Louise.

Oslo Bishop Ole Christian Kvarme and Pastor Olav Dag Hauge will conduct the services, which will be followed by a reception at the palace.

The 82-year-old princess, who died at her home in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, will be buried at Asker Church with only closest family in attendance. Palace officials said Tuesday that the family did not want any media present at the burial.

Norway’s consulate and Seamen’s Church in Rio were also planning to hold a memorial service for Princess Ragnhild on Thursday at 5pm at the local English church. Her body was to be flown to Norway, arriving at Oslo’s main airport at Gardermoen Saturday, with King Harald and Princess Astrid present.
