Avalanche kills skier at Tuddal

A 30-year-old man skiing off-piste in the Tuddal area of Telemark on Wednesday was killed when he got caught in what police called a “small avalanche.”

Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported that the man had gone skiing alone at around 11:30am. He was reported missing by his girlfriend after he failed to return at an agreed time.

Police, the Red Cross and a helicopter started searching for him, and the avalanche was spotted, along with a ski, around 8:30pm not far from the mountain Bodik.

Officials from the Telemark Police District confirmed his body was found in the snow Wednesday evening. The weather had turned mild and sunny during the day, but heavy snow has raised the avalanche danger in the mountains.
