A 35-year-old man from Romania has been arrested in Paris, charged with robbery, violent assault and two rapes in Oslo. The victims included Norwegian women aged 87 and 77.
The man had been in custody for a minor offense in Østfold County but was released before results of a routine DNA test were available. By the time police could match his DNA to evidence from the two rapes, he had disappeared, but police tracked him down to Paris last week.
They are now arranging for his extradition back to Oslo to stand trial. Police consider him to be “very dangerous.” The attacks on the elderly women sparked headlines and fear in Oslo, and residents of the Korsvoll area where the 77-year-old was attacked expressed relief that a suspect had been apprehended.
