An anti-Islamic demonstration that got a lot attention from Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) before it occurred failed to attract many participants on Saturday. Police were out in full force, though, and outnumbered the demonstrators.
Only around 40 persons showed up to protest Islamic immigration in Norway. Newspaper Aftenposten reported they included two Swedes, one Dane, two Brits, one person from Finland and one from Poland.
They held appeals in both English, Danish and Norwegian in front of the walls of the Oslo prison in the oldest part of Oslo called Gamlebyen. Norwegian songwriter Jørn Hoel complained that they sang one of his songs, stressing that he had nothing to do with the demonstration and distancing himself from the opinions of the event’s organizers.
