A former basketball coach in his 30s has been charged with raping several of the young women he trained, reported newspaper VG this week. He’s also charged with having exploited his position as a coach.
The man, whose identity was withheld in accordance with Norwegian press custom, has been tied to several athletic clubs in southeastern Norway both as a player and a coach. VG described him as a man with a fairly high profile in Norwegian basketball circles.
The man has acknowledged having had sexual relations with seven women who are among the plaintiffs in the case. He coached five of those he’s charged with raping. The first alleged rape occurred in 2004, the last in 2011.
