Norway’s national football team, known mostly as landslaget, gave their coach Egil “Drillo” Olsen a good start to the New Year by beating South Africa’s squad in Cape Town on Tuesday. Tarik Elyounoussis’ goal was just what Olsen wanted.
It was the one good chance his team had, and Elyounoussis grabbed it five minutes before the break. Commentators otherwise thought play was far from noteworthy. Aftenposten claimed that South Africa was the better of the two teams, but the one chance was enough to claim victory.
The match was a private one and doesn’t count towards the run-up to the World Cup, but it attracted around 30,000 spectators and gave the team more good practice. The team will play Zambia on Saturday.
