Police in the southern Norwegian county of Østfold have charged a bus driver from Lithuania after the tourist bus he was driving ran off the four-lane E6 highway near Rygge on Saturday morning and tipped over.
The bus was carrying Chinese tourists to Gothenburg in Sweden, after they’d been on a tour around Norway. Sixteen of those on board were injured, a few seriously, and they were taken to Ullevål University Hospital in Oslo for treatment.
Police took what they called “routine” blood tests from the driver but said they had no indication he’d been under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The Chinese passengers were questioned as well, through an interpreter, as police investigated the cause of the accident, which forced closure of the busy highway for several hours on Saturday.
