Police in Vestfold County have arrested a young man described as being under the age of 20 and charged him with major vandalism in connection with three fires in Tønsberg late Tuesday night.
Ole Bjørn Sakrisvold of the Vestfold Police District told reporters that the suspect was arrested Wednesday and that police had searched his home. He was said to have a connection to the waterfront residential complex at Kaldnes Brygge in Tønsberg, where 40 residents had to be evacuated in the middle of the night because of fire. Several suffered smoke inhalation.
Two other fires erupted nearby, meanwhile, one in a mobile home and one on a boat.
Sakrisvold said that witness observations and technical evidence led police to the suspect’s home. Charges against him may be expanded as the police investigation continues into the fires, which are believed to have been set deliberately.
