Man charged with plundering silver mine

A 47-year-old man from Drammen known as “Dynamite Harry” has been charged with plundering Norway’s historic silver mines in Kongsberg over the last 20 years, stealing the ore and vandalizing the protected area along the way.

The unusual case involves serious violations of Norway’s historic preservation laws as well as pure theft. The man is charged with trespassing into the mines, setting off explosives, illegal excavation and littering.

He’s also charged with theft of minerals from a preserved area on the Hardanger plateau, with an estimated EUR 120,000, reported newspaper Dagbladet.

Police found explosives and excavation equipment at his residence, according to Dagbladet. He reportedly admitted to his illegal mining activity inside the silver mines.
