Solskjær tanks against old team

Norwegian football hero Ole Gunnar Solskjær faced his old team, Manchester United for the first time on Tuesday night as manager of Cardiff City. The crowd at Old Trafford gave Solskjær a warm welcome home, but the glow wore off quickly when Manchester scored their first goal six minutes in.

The crowd sang “You are my Solskjær” when the legendary forward walked out onto his old home pitch. Solskjær clapped and waved to the crowd, before taking his place on the Cardiff City bench reported Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

Fans continued calling his name until Robin van Persie drew first blood for Manchester United after six minutes. Juan Mata secured the 2-0 win with a second half goal in his debut match. “It can be tough when you let in goals after six minutes,” said Solskjær after the defeat. “We played better eventually, but not well enough to create big chances.”

Solskjær made headlines internationally when he signed on to coach Cardiff City earlier this month, leaving his position at Norwegian club Molde. Solskjær faced an uphill battle when he took over, with the Welsh team hovering dangerously near the English Premier League relegation zone.
