Military explosives found in a yard

Police cordoned off a property in Figgjo, Sandnes on Monday night and arrested a man in his 40s after a homeowner discovered dynamite and military explosives buried in his yard. Police kept guard over the property overnight, which neighbours a large kindergarten.

The man arrested was the former owner of the property, reported Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK). Police took him in for questioning on Tuesday morning to determine why he had the cache, while a bomb group traveled from Oslo on Tuesday to remove the explosives.

“Yesterday evening the homeowner rang us, he had found something which resembled dynamite during a cleanup in the garden,” said Kurt Løklingholm from Rogaland district police. “When we reached the place we found dynamite and military explosives.”

The owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, told NRK his family had a sleepless night. “I was scared, but my wife was even more scared,” he said. “I thought it wasn’t safe for us to be in the house. We’ve got a one-year-old child. Good thing I found this and not the children.”
