A 58-year-old Norwegian man was under arrest in Romania Monday, charged with sexually abusing young boys and filming the assaults. Police seized him after a dramatic car chase north of Bucharest.
The organized crime division of the Romanian police announced in a press release Monday that they had secured both photographs and videos of the assaults that were found in the apartment he used in the Romanian capital. At least one of his victims was said to be hearing- and speech-impaired.
The arrest is part of a larger police operations that uncovered a ring of alleged pedophiles who also have been put in custody. Their victims were aged 10 to 13 and the Norwegian faces charges of assaults on at least 10 children.
A spokeswoman for Norway’s foreign ministry confirmed the arrest on Monday. As with all Norwegian citizens arrested abroad, he’ll be offered judicial support through the state. Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported that he has no police record in Norway, held positions in several companies and had taxable income of around a million kroner a year (USD 166,000).
