Sunday was a day for large gatherings in the Norwegian capital, including hordes of children and their parents who took part in the local ski association’s annual “children’s day” at Holmenkollen, in the hills above Oslo.
While thousands of people were marching in Oslo to promote women’s rights, another 6,000 children turned out to take part in various cross-country ski races based on their age, played games, had their faces painted and got to eat sausages and treats.
The event, called Barnas Holmenkolldag, traditionally kicks off a week of events at Holmenkollen, site of Oslo’s ski jump by the same name. The week will end with World Cup Nordic events next weekend, including professional ski jumping and ski racing by the world’s top winter sports athletes, many of them Norwegian.
