More than 1,500 people took part in the traditional Muslim funeral on Tuesday for a 40-year-old father of three who was gunned down next to his parked car last weekend. The police investigation into the execution-style murder continued but no arrests had been made by Wednesday.
Newspaper Aftenposten reported that the victim’s family alone numbered around 200, with relatives flying in to Oslo from Canada, France and England, according to a nephew. The family also has a large circle of friends and acquaintances along with work colleagues.
The murder victim himself had served prison time for shooting three men in 1996, all of whom had alleged bullied him during their youth. Police have questioned two of them but haven’t made contact with the third, who’s said to be abroad.
“We don’t think (the 40-year-old) was a coincidental victim,” Grete Lien Metlid of the Oslo Police District told Aftenposten. Police were still calling on the public for help from possible witnesses.
