Women celebrate likely advancement at World Cup

Norway’s national women’s football team was jubilant after scoring against the powerhouse German team in World Cup competition in Ottawa on Thursday. They also managed to keep Germany from logging a victory, with the match ending in a 1-1 tie.

A free penalty kick scored by Maren Mjelde was hailed by commentators as “perfect,” and a “pearl” that came in the 60th minute of action. “It couldn’t have been better, it was very good for us,”  agreed coach Even Pellerud. He told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that “I have to go home and just see it again.”

After trouncing Thailand by a score of 4-0 on Monday, the Norwegian team seemed assured of advancing to the next round of playoffs at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015. They’ll face the team from the Ivory Coast on Monday.
