Terror-charged engineer released

An engineer at the large Norwegian company Aker Solutions has been released from police custody, just over a month after he was arrested in his office and charged with terrorist activities.

Investigators for police intelligence unit PST said they no longer feared he could tamper with evidence. The charges against him are being upheld, however, and Siv Alsén of PST said the investigation would continue.

The 48-year-old suspect came to Norway as a refugee from Iraq in 1998. Officials at Aker Solutions themselves had reacted to his Internet activity and reported it to police, who put him under surveillance.

He’s charged with spreading information that could be used by people planning a terrorist attack He has denied the charges against him and is said to be cooperating with the investigation.
