Norway’s national football team kept its dream of qualifying for the European Championships alive after it beat Bulgaria’s team by a score of 1-0 in Sofia Thursday night. Vegard Forren’s goal gave Norway the points needed to stay in the running, quite literally.
Football commentators said the match played in Bulgaria’s capital wasn’t especially exciting or elegant, but it paid off. If Norway had lost, it likely would have been knocked out of the qualification round. Norway now ranks third in its qualifying group, just one point behind Croatia.
Norway will face off against Croatia on Sunday, on home turf at Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo. If Norway wins, the national team could win a spot in the opening rounds of Euro2016, which starts in France next summer.
