Stabbing tied to robbery same day

Police confirmed on Tuesday that they were investigating whether the fatal stabbing of a man in Oslo’s Majorstua district on Monday was tied to a robbery at knifepoint in the same area early that same morning.

A bank employee arriving for work Monday morning was threatened with a knife and robbed of his mobile phone and briefcase. Police said the robbery occurred in the parking garage on Essendrops Gate.

Around four hours later, police were called after a man was found stabbed to death just a few blocks away, on Arbos Gate. Police are now disclosing more details about that incident, revealing that the victim was a man in his 20s from Østfold County south of Oslo. He was found stabbed in his apartment, and police believe he was murdered sometime between 8am and 12:15pm.

Police spokeswoman Grete Lien Metlid said it was “natural” to investigate whether there was any connection between the two incidents. “We’re working with many things right now,” Metlid told reporters at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. Police were still calling for tips from the public, to phone number 22 66 99 66.
