Car fires under investigation

Oslo police are investigating fires involving five parked cars in the Ulven area near Østre Aker Church this week. Arson is suspected.

Firefighters got their first calls shortly after 2am on Monday and initially found three to four cars ablaze. Håkon Nilen, operations leader for the Oslo Police District, told news bureau NTB that it turned out to be five car fires, all in the same area.

Four of them have been towed in for inspection. The fires were the third in a series of car fires in September. Two cars burned on St Halvards Gate in Gamlebyen on September 6 while another parked car was destroyed in a fire at Skullerud on September 26. Two cars parked nearby were also damaged.

There have been a total of 123 car fires in Oslo since early 2017.
