Police investigate double homicide

A man and a woman were found murdered in a residential building in Stvanger during the night. A third man at the scene was arrested and charged with both murders, with police confirming that he had “a long-term relationship” to the woman.

Police wouldn’t reveal many details of the double homicide at a press conference Wednesday morning. Neighbours told state broadcaster NRK that they didn’t hear any disturbance during the night.

The two victims and the man charged with their murders are all asylum seekers from Syria. The man charged called police himself to report the murders, but hadn’t filed any legal response to the murder charges against him.

“We’re at a very early stage of the investigation,” Lars Ole Berge of the Southwest Police District told NRK. “We can’t say anything more about the chain of events or the background for the murders.” The defendant faced a custody hearing Wednesday afternoon.
