Travellers are being warned all over Europe and Scandinavia that airports lack enough workers, and that can lead to long lines at check-in and security. Many are missing flights because it can take hours to get to the gate.
There’s also a lack of ground crews around the aircraft, leading to delays in baggage handling. The situation at Norway’s gateway airport in Oslo, OSL Gardermoen, has been under control, but connections through key hubs like Schipol in Amsterdam can cause problems.
Those flying out of Sweden’s main airport at Arlanda outside Stockholm have also encountered delays because staffing hasn’t reached pre-Corona levels. Technical problems have also disrupted transit through Terminal 5. “It’s going to be a very tough summer,” one security guard told Swedish broadcaster SVT.
