Slippery roads set off traffic accidents

Snow, sleet and rain suddenly made lots of roads in Southern Norway slippery and hazardous during the weekend, also on the main E18 motorway between Kristiansand and Oslo. Police reported nearly 15 traffic accidents in the southeast on Monday morning in addition to several on Sunday, some of which resulted in serious injuries.

The area around Skien and Bamble in Telemark was hit hard, but also the E18 north of Grelland near Holmestrand. Several cars also spun out of control on smaller two-lane roads, for example on Kodalveien near Sandefjord.

Accidents were also reported in Hvittingfoss, Hokksund, Hønefoss and in Årnes, much farther to the east. Police were urging motorists to reduce their speed and not to drive if they hadn’t yet shifted over to winter tires on their vehicles.
