Man sought in double murder found dead

Police confirmed on Thursday that the body of a man found dead in the sea outside Kristiansand earlier this week is the same man they’d sought in the murder of his ex-wife and daughter. Police had issued an international warrant for the arrest of Alwan Ahmed Alawneh.

Instead they found him close to home. Results of an autopsy into his cause of death were not yet available, but suspicions rose that it was all part of what Norwegian police call a “family tragedy,” in this case a possible murder-suicide.

Police stressed, however, that he still may not have murdered his ex-wife and eight-year-old daughter. They’re not ruling out that others may have been involved.

Funeral services were held for both the mother and her daughter on Thursday, and attended by several hundred who wanted to show their support for the deceased and the Muslim community in Kristiansand.
