Norway’s public health institute has warned of a new “influensa epidemic” that’s “seriously underway” and likely to spoil many Christmas and New Year holidays. The wave of illness, which also includes the Covid virus, isn’t expected to peak until early in January.
“The number of hospitalizations is increasing considerably now,” wrote Dr Preben Aavitsland of FHI (Folkehelseinstitutt) in an email to newspaper Aftenposten after around 100 people a day have beeb requiring hospital care.
“There will be a long period of both flu and Corona during the holidays,” Aavitsland said. FHI advised those falling ill to stay home to reduce the spread of infection.
