Norway’s government joined others around the world this week in thanking US President Joe Biden for the job he’s done since being elected nearly four years ago. Top politicians also hailed Biden’s decision not to run for re-election after all.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said he especially respected Biden’s decision to put the country ahead of himself, since the elderly president clearly wanted to stay in office. His age, compounded by a recent bout with the Covid virus, suggested otherwise.
“I want to especially thank him (Biden) for his leadership in NATO,” said Støre, calling Biden one of the US’ foremost politicians over several decades, and a president who pushed through several important reforms.
“I look forward to cooperate with Biden as US president until the end of January,” Støre added, when a new US president will be sworn into office, either current Vice President Kamala Harris or former president Donald Trump.
