The Norwegian national women’s football team has secured itself a spot in the quarter-finals of the European Championships, but not without criticism along the way. The team’s performance has failed to impress, despite winning its first two matches.
Norway beat Finland by a score of 2-1 on Sunday after also beating host country Switzerland in its opening match. That puts them at the top of their group, but not because of their presentation on the field. It’s been bashed by Norwegian commentators as everything from “weak” to “disjointed,” and coach Gemma Grainger reportedly has had some stern talks with her players during the half-time break.
Grainger thought her team’s performance in the second half of the match against Finland was excellent, though, and everyone was cheering for Caroline Graham Hansen’s solo scoring that won the match. Their next match will be against Iceland on Thursday.
