Norwegian interest rates unchanged

Norway’s central bank kept its key policy rate unchanged at 4 percent on Thursday, and it’s likely to stay there for awhile. Norges Bank governor Ida Wolden Bache made it clear she’s in no hurry to bring interests down because she thinks price growth is still too high.

Analysts hadn’t expected any interest rate cut either. No new economic reports were put forth and Bache remains concerned about inflation. It’s running at 3.2 percent in Norway, while Norges Bank’s inflation goal is just 2 percent.

Norway’s policy rate was last lowered by just a half-point in September, but then some prices including those for food rose again. Bache repeated Thursday morning that the bank’s monetary policy committee had concluded there was still no reason to lower interest rates again.
