UPDATED: There’s been a series of shootings and a stabbing incident in Oslo during the past 10 days, followed by several arrests. A shooting that left one man critically wounded took place right next to a busy sports field, and he later died.
Police are still searching for the gunman who shot another man in his 20s while football matches at Økern were underway nearby. The shooting was witnessed by scores of children, teens and their parents, and police claim the case has high priority.
The victim was involved in another shooting at nearby Rommen last summer. One theory is that Sunday’s attack was ordered by a criminal gang or local motorcycle club. Police later tied it to the arrests of two teenagers in Norrköping, Sweden suspected of fatally shooting another man in his 20s.
The shooting at Økern followed another the week before in Lillestrøm, northeast of Oslo, in which eight people have been charged. Surveillance video shows shots being fired at the front door of a house at Skjetten in Lillestrøm in which a family with youngsters at home were sleeping. They’d been threatened earlier and called the police themselves. An investigation is underway.
On Tuesday a man in his 70s was stabbed to death at home at Holmenkollåsen, an affluent neighbourhood on Oslo’s west side. Police had been alerted to a major quarrel at the house and quickly tracked down the assailant, a young man who was the mentally disturbed grandson of the victim. He was arrested a few hundred meters from the house after the police fired warning shots but hasn’t yet been able to appear in court because of his poor health.
